“Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”
(Psalm 73:25–26 CSB).
Have you ever found yourself in a life situation where everything seems to be falling apart? Business or work is going down, your economic status suddenly drops, things you could afford, you can’t afford them anymore. Loss and death of friends and family. Some friends you thought were friends suddenly walk out of your life. Long-term relationships are breaking. Multiple disappointments and betrayals. Financially, you are stripped. Psychologically & mentally you are freaking out. And you are just tired. Tired of it all. You just want to run away from it all?
Have you been in any of this situation before?
Or are you in it right now?
Darling, some situations are there to strip away your wall and person(s) of dependence, so you can look to God and depend on Him only. As humans, we long for comfort. We find comfort in our family, friends, job, possessions and we are okay as long as all these are in place. In fact, we see no reason to look to God or depend on him when we have everything else going for us. But the reality is, true comfort can only be found in God. People are flawed and when they disappoint us or betray us. It really hurts because we thought we had found that family or friend(s) that would always be there. And when we lost that job, business, possessions, and things we value, we also hurt because our perceived source of provision is gone. Situations like this can be very difficult to withstand but they can really help us grow.
God may intentionally strip you of everything. Pride, self-dependence, dependence on others, material things and break you down. However, He leaves you with faith and calls you unto Himself. He calls you to depend on Him. He calls you to become intimate with Him. Because your dependence and absolute trust in humans has deprived you the true joy and peace of depending and trusting in the only one that can NEVER fail or leave you. And your total dependence on your job, possessions, business, has left you thinking that you are your own provider.
But situations like this wakes us up and refocuses our attention to God.
This is not to undermine what you are going through right now, but I want you to understand that this striping is a process, a season and it shall pass. But will you let your faith, trust, and dependence on God grow from it or will you be miserable through it all? Will you draw closer to God and look intently for the blessings in the disappointment.
Darling, I want you to lean on to God and let Him be your strength. Though things are hard, keep pushing & keep your joy. Somehow, you will successfully go through each day by the grace of God. In the little you have, you will be grateful and content. You might not be happy but hold on to that unspeakable joy that can’t be explained and that peace within you that makes no sense.
I love Philippians 4:4-7. It’s an admonition and reminder to be joyful and look to God
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
God is doing a new thing in your life. You are being pruned and prepared for what God has already prepared for you.
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
The old has to be removed for the new to come. Thus, God strips you of the old you to make a new you. He strips you of your pride, ego, arrogance, dependence and humbles you. He empties you and fills you with the truth of His word.
Darling, when God strips you of everything but your faith, be grateful for you are blessed. This pruning, breaking, and striping of you will give birth to a new you, who is more connected to the vine. This pressing of you will give rise to a new oil for a new light.
We are pressed but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair; persecuted but not abandoned, strucked down but not destroyed. We are blessed!
We walk by faith and not by sight.
Hang in there, this too shall pass.
Note: This post is very personal and I honestly felt at different moments of my life that God was intentionally stripping me of people and things I was holding on to, depended on and had faith in. But every time this happens, I find that while I feel stripped of it all, one thing remained. My Faith in God. And that faith draws me back to him and I begin to see how misplaced my dependence and faith had been. I begin to see that I truly only have God and that’s more than enough. I come out stronger each time. You will too.
