Get Wisdom this Year

The Bible says in Proverbs 4:7, Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment.”

I love to see and find that the Bible actually answer many if not all the questions that I have.
I have always wondered, “How do I get wisdom?” Because the I really want wisdom, the benefits of wisdom listed in the book of Proverbs are really tempting and I want them.
But It’s amazing how I’ve said and read the answer to my question for years but it never really clicked.
So again I asked, how do I get wisdom and the answer came.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.” (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 9:10)

AH! Wow! Thank you Holy Spirit.
Job 28:28 also said it, “God said to us humans, “To be WISE, you MUST have REVERENCE (fear) for the Lord. To understand, you must turn from evil.”

Then my next question which is probably yours too is, “What does it mean to reverence the Lord and how does that lead to wisdom?

Well, stick with me.
To reverence simply means to have a deep respect/regard for someone.
But it is important to know that to reverence someone you must know them to an extent and such reverence deepens with a relationship. Many of us have people we respect/revere from afar and most of the time when we get closer to them, we find out more things about them that deepen our respect for them. And because we revere/respect them, there are certain things we would do around or with other people that we wouldn’t dare do with or around them simply because we revere them.

Now that is for fellow humans like you and I. When it comes to God, our reverence and respect should be even deeper and higher. Knowing that he is Omnipotent (all-powerful, almighty, supreme, our creator). Honestly, we know God and what he can do and undo. I don’t even have to start telling you about who God is if you are a Christian.

But even non-Christians know God to an extent and reverence him, how much more you who claim to be a Christian, who has or should have a relationship with him. Because the closer you get with God, you begin to see how holy, awesome and powerful he is and your reverence (holy fear) of him increases.

Now, how does reverence of God begin wisdom?
Well, if you have respect & reverence for your earthly father or mentor, you will know that “Oh It is WISE for me not to do things that my father hates or detests.” Same with your heavenly Father (God), because we know he is omnipotent and he hates sin, reverence for him derives wisdom in us not to do things he hates.

“The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom” Note the keyword, “BEGINNING.” It is a start, a foundation. It could start as a pearl of wisdom that guides you away from sin and goes farther into the wisdom of who God is (because God is so mighty, just when you think you know him, you find out more), the wisdom of your purpose, the wisdom of directions and paths to take, the wisdom of who to marry or be friends with. As your relationship/reverence for God goes deeper, so does your wisdom because you will trust him more and always go to him for guidance.

If we desire wisdom, we must seek God, serve him, fear him, love him and cling to him.
Wisdom can’t be found outside of God. Even the source of Solomon’s wisdom was God.
So why do we search for wisdom outside of God? We tend to reverence people more than God. We look to people for wisdom, advise, counsel & guidance.

The world has nothing but foolishness (though it is perceived as wisdom) to offer us.
This year, avoid making foolish mistakes, decision and taking wrong paths.
Cling to God, the source of all wisdom and reverence (fear) Him.

God Bless.

You are Eternally Loved.
