Whose thoughts and ways are supreme in your life? Part 2


My local church pastor continued the sermon about God’s thoughts and ways. So, I will love to share more on that with you. That way you can get the full knowledge and wisdom about how important it is for you to make God’s ways and thoughts supreme in your life.

The Bible teaches us that we only find life in God. An eternal life filled with everything to its fullest measure – wisdom, knowledge, joy, understanding, and peace. What we need to understand is that we are all eternal beings and there is a place called eternal damnation, HELL!. We definitely don’t want to go to eternal damnation, because that is called real death. And everything else that is found in God is called life. This is why God invites us into his life and wants us to be one with him. Last week, we looked at Ephesians 4: 17 (KJV) – “This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind” In other words, don’t do you own thing, don’t walk in the vanity of your mind and think you can do all things yourself.  Ephesians 4: 18 (KJV) continues by saying, “Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.” In other words, their understandings are darkened because they are not walking in God’s thoughts and ways and living in their own thought life, and this alienates them from the life of God. In other words, you can’t experience the life God wants you to experience if your mind is darkened. For instance, if you are having depressing thoughts, how can you have the joy of the Lord? How can you have peace? God never told you those things you are thinking about; you are just thinking about them on your own. He told you to think about things that are lovely and pure – “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 (NIV).

God basically tells us how to think and live, but if you are thinking about the present things happening in your life and you are depressed, you are alienated from the peace, love & joy of God. So, for you not to become alienated from God’s life for you by living with your thoughts, God has to give you his thoughts. Because thoughts lead to beliefs and beliefs, lead to values and values lead to actions. And this is the way we live. So if you don’t have God’s thoughts, you will gradually develop your darkened thoughts into actions.

Now, in the church, there are people at different levels in their relationship with God. Spiritual maturity is all about getting out of your thought life into God’s thought life. Unfortunately, many people don’t get there. Well, that is what the bible says, only a few finds the small and narrow gate  – Matthew 7:14 (NLT). And these are the people who always say, “The Bible says” When you talk to them, they will always tell you what the Bible says. They won’t tell you what they say or think but what the Bible (God’s word) says. They have learned not live under their own thoughts because our foolish personal thinkings only screw us up and keep us alienated from the life of God. God promises us abundant life, but we always think we have a better way.

You cannot think the thoughts God think. You can never think like God. He already told us that, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8 – 9 (NLT), so we are never close to thinking like God at all. We have to change our thoughts into God’s thoughts to change our lives. So if your thoughts have brought you to where you are right now in life, how satisfied are you with that? Does it look like the life Jesus told you he wants you to have abundantly? Do you have a joy unspeakable? Do you have peace that passes all understanding? OR is your life dominated by worry, fear, concern, anxiety, stress? Did you know that there is no such thing as anxiety and stress, except that which you bring and invite into your own mind through your thoughts? Did you know you can’t go to the store and buy something called anxiety or stress? Did you know it only comes through an improper thought life? The Bible says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” – 1 peter 5:7 (NLT). If you knew this, you wouldn’t needlessly do the worrying yourself but cast and give it to God. Instead, we worry, “What if they find out? What if they fire me?” Why will they fire you if you are doing what you ought to be doing? And when they fire you because you are not hardworking, you start saying things like, “Oh I lost my job, I don’t know why God is making me go through all this” But God had nothing to do with it, it was all your fault. So doing things your own ways only puts you in trouble and alienates you from an abundant life.

Back to Ephesians 4: 18, it talks about “blindness of the heart” Being spiritual blind and being in darkness is being separated from your relationship with God and the life he wants you to have. Obedience to his ways and thoughts brings you lots of blessings. For example, you can be assured that your financial life will be taken care of by God when you obey his commands and bring in your tithes and offerings into his storehouse, and you give generously to the poor. The Bible teaches us that Satan deceives the whole world –(Revelation 12: 9 (NASB). We have all been deceived by Satan. Satan blinds our minds and keeps us in a state of deception. His job is to keep us from the truth about God. He keeps so many people and sinners from coming to God because he has them believing that God is a mean old man, who is very angry at them and wants nothing to do with them. So, they continue to live in sin. But this image the devil paints is contrary to what God is and sadly some churches also portray this image and keep people out of the church. It is true that God knows everything you have done, and he is definitely not happy about them. But he doesn’t hate you, in fact, he sent his son to die for all those sins that you and I have committed so we could have life in him. God loves sinners, the nasty and rotten sinners. So, come to him.


We are all deceived, and the only thing that enlightens us is the BIBLE. We can’t enlighten ourselves based on our thoughts. We will just keep deceiving each other more and more. So, trust the thoughts and ways of God, for he has not been deceived, can’t be deceived and will NEVER be deceived. Get the word (Bible) which is filled with God’s thoughts and ways and be enlightened. The Bible is life, a lamp unto our feet and light on our path –  (Psalms 119: 105 – NIV).

You have two choices, your thoughts and ways of how life should be lived or God’s thoughts and ways of how life should be lived. And they are opposites. For instance, God says love your enemies. There is no way we would have come up with that on our own. We can’t wait to get our enemies and deal with them, but God says to love them. God also says to bless those who curse you, but we often go for the “do me I do you” style. You curse me; I curse you –  typical darkened deceived thoughts and heart of man. This is why we need God’s thoughts in our life because it tells us the right way to live. We need to forsake our ways and thoughts and learn his ways and his thoughts – Isaiah 55:7. But the problem with most Christians is, we read a book that tells us the right way, but we never do what it says. We are only hearer and not doers; we only have faith, no works. We justify our foolish ways and thoughts and say things like, “Nobody is perfect.” And we hang on to our weaknesses, thoughts, lies and deception when God offers us the truth. The devil tells you everything is alright when it’s not, he tells you it’s okay to do that which is wrong since everyone is doing it, he tells you that God will understand that you are only human, and everyone is not perfect.

We often think our ways and thoughts are always right because we are self-righteous. The problem is, we are the thinker and judge of our thoughts. And as long as we are the judge of our own thoughts, they will always seem right to us. But the truth is God is the ultimate Judge, and you will give account for every wrong thought you acted on.You have two choices again, you either come to light, learn to live with God’s thoughts and his ways and eat the fruit of life abundantly OR remain in the darkness, keep living with your thoughts and ways and eat the fruit of your foolish actions. Having Jesus in your heart and salvation is not enough, you have to learn, follow and be his disciple. You need to grow and become like Christ. If you want to be a disciple of Christ, you will have to lose your life to find it. You will have to lose all your thoughts and ways and take his thoughts and ways. You will have to run the race for the prize, you will have to fight the good fight of faith, you will have to put on the whole armor of God, you will have to renew your thinking and much more. YOU HAVE TO GROW!

Here are few things the Bible said about our thoughts; “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advise.” – Proverbs 12: 15 (ESV). The Bible calls you a fool if you insist on your way despite God’s offering of his way. “There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” – Proverbs 14: 12 (NASB). Your thoughts may seem right to you, but the end eventually is that of death, hell, and eternal damnation.

In Jeremiah 6: 19 (KJV) –  God said, “Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.” In other words, you will eat the fruits of your thoughts. Why will you want to eat the fruits of your thought when you can eat the fruit of God’s thoughts?  He also tells us in Hosea 10: 13 (NHEB), “You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.” The last bible verse talks about our thoughts; now you will also eat the fruit of your own ways, which is the fruit of lies if you keep living life with your own thoughts and ways.

In Proverb 1: 23 – 31 (KJV),  God’s wisdom speaks; 23 TURN AT MY REPROOF (whatever God says you should do, turn and do it even if it doesn’t make sense to you. Let God be your lifeline): behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you (don’t you want his spirit poured out unto you? but you have to obey and turn at his reproof), I will make known my words unto you.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. (Notice, it doesn’t say, “if” it says “when” – meaning if you live life with your thoughts and ways, these things will surely happen)

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would be none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. (You want to live your own way, go ahead, you will eat the fruit of it)

One question, though, how has the fruit been? Where have you gotten yourself? Did you enjoy the fruit?  We still have Christians who still live by their own thoughts and ways. It’s not enough to go to church and listen to your pastor’s teachings, you must read the bible yourself and know God’s thoughts and ways. We need to build a strong relationship with God and take his thoughts and ways. Once you know his thoughts and ways you are thoroughly convinced of what you know and believe. And you also know it’s right by examining the fruits. Jesus said, “you shall know them by their fruits.” – Matthew 7:16.  What fruits are you producing? What do people see when they look at you? When we profess to be Christians and our lives are totally miserable and wretched because we haven’t followed Christ and learned his thoughts and ways, we become a really bad testimony to the world. But when we do it his way, people look at you and want to be like you; they want to know your God and what your secret to life is – which is simply making God’s thoughts and ways supreme in your life.  Are you driving people away from Christ with the rotten and bad fruits you produce or are you bringing people to Christ with the good fruits you produce?


God, the creator of heaven and earth, says to you, here, “Eat of my ways and eat of my thought.” But why do you still cling on to death and destruction? For what reason? Satan has deceived you and blinded your mind from the truth, and you are now living in a self-righteous manner saying, “my ways are right, God know my ways, God knows my thoughts.”  And yet, on the inside you know your fruits are rotten, and something is wrong because your life doesn’t match up with what the Bible says. There is something wrong with your ways and thoughts, so God offers you higher ways and thoughts and if you refuse to choose this, you refuse to choose the higher life, life more abundantly.

So will you rather eat the fruit of your thoughts and ways or eat the fruit of God’s thoughts and ways?

Challenge for me and you –  This is the same challenge from last week. As we have learned, we can only get enlightened and eat of God’s thoughts and ways by studying our Bibles and knowing his thoughts and ways and aligning our actions with them. So, take time out, make it a daily habit to study the Bible and fill your mind and soul with God’s thoughts and ways. Be intentional! I also pray that God will grant you his Holy spirit to direct you, give you all the grace you need and equip you with all you need to resist all distraction and make your bible studying time and prayer time to God a success in Jesus name. Amen
