Some time ago, a friend of mine said, “The world is crazy!” She said that after watching the television and saw several acts and behaviors of people and various incidents on the news. And I thought to myself, “Wow, the world really is crazy.” If we are to think about and analyze everything going on in this world, especially in this our “blessed” generation, we can definitely come to that conclusion.
However, the main question is;
“Is it okay for us to also go crazy with the world?”
Just because the world is crazy, do we have to be crazy with it? Because the world is full of evil, do we have to be evil? Because the world is full of lust, anger, unrighteousness, lies, sins, et cetera, do we have to be full of all these too?
Someone once told me about how she responded and insulted a person because he/she was rude to her. And despite my rebuke of such behavior, she did not see anything wrong with what she did. She went on to tell me that I act nice and say nice things because I am still young and I haven’t really dealt with or gotten involved with people in the real world.
She might be right to an extent. I know people really can push you to the wall real hard and cause you to sin and stumble. So I went on and asked her, ” Will you tell God you insulted that person just because you are older now and you have been able to work with lot of people, and that has made you realize that people out there are “crazy”, so, in return, you have to become crazy and treat them the same way they treat you? Well, I can only imagine how God will respond to that.
But we know that we ought not only grow physically and remain as babies spiritually. As you grow physically, you must also grow spiritually. 1 Corinthians 13: 11 says, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” So only baby Christians and those who are still in the world act like babies and partake in the world’s craziness. The Bible says to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21) and If you are slapped on the left chick turn the other (Matthew 5:39), etc. Acting like this does not make you a weak person, but a true follower of Christ. You choose not to slap or insult someone back so as to bring glory to God and that person gets to see Christ and the love of God in you.
I must say, though, that I am not entirely pure and I do get crazy sometimes too. Sometimes, I also lose my sanity, insult people when they insult me, talk rudely to people when they do the same. But is this the right thing to do? I am sure it isn’t because my Bible says it’s not. (Matthew 5:39, 1 Peter 3:9, 1Thessalonians 5:15, Proverbs 20:22)
Even though the world is crazy, we don’t have to be. We must learn to keep our sanity. Fine, we are humans and this is not humanly possible at all times because the flesh always loves to have its way. Thus, we must stand with the Lord and ask for his help in every situation we find ourselves. This way we can handle situations sanely and maturely, like true Christians and followers of Christ. This way we can gradually help make the world less crazy instead of adding to it or becoming a part of it!!
We must also remember, that though we are in the world, we are not of the world but of the Lord and our eyes should be fixed on our heavenly home. We should build up and develop characters of Christ that will help us on our journey home instead of getting distracted or sidetracked to stop and partake in the world’s craziness.
