Stay Alert

The whole armor of God as listed in Ephesians 6: 11 – 19 is a very familiar Bible passage to believers. However, being very familiar with the passage can allow us to miss something very important.

Apostle Paul lists the 7 component of the armor of God in vs 11 – 18

The belt of truth around our waist
Righteousness as our breastplate
The gospel (good news) as our shoes
Faith as our shield against the flaming arrows of the enemy
Salvation as our helmet
The word of God as our spiritual sword
Prayer as an essential support – at all times

Now, we might stop here. But I implore us to read just a little bit further and he says, “STAY ALERT with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.” – Ephesians 6: 18b.  Stay alert. Keep your eyes open. Do not sleep spiritually. Persevere. Don’t get tired of standing. Keep pushing forward. The enemy is not sleeping and resting, you don’t have the luxury to be resting spiritually. You must be fully charged with your eyes open.

It is extremely futile to be sleeping in the spirit with the whole armor of God on. While the armor is there to protect and shield you, your alertness and perseverance at war are required.
The war is spiritual, not physical. So, let us be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6: 10). And ask that He may continue to give strengthen us in His power and might we will be ever alert and ready for every battle. Amen.
