Why you should read and study the Bible

read the bible

The reading and studying of the Bible is something that I will forever encourage others about and practice myself because I have seen and tasted the significance of the Bible (The Word of God) in my life. Prior to being saved, I had no appetite for the word of God and it was totally normal. Why would an unbeliever, one who is spiritually dead be interested in reading a living word? Why would a fool who didn’t know she was a fool be interested in gaining wisdom? Why would one who thought she had all she wanted in life and was gradually living her best life, think to pick up the word of God and read it? Why would one who was being unknowingly lied to, know to pick of the word of Truth and learn the truth?

So it was absolutely normal for me as an unbeliever about three years ago, to never have a desire, hunger or thirst for the Word of God.

But as a believer in Christ Jesus, it would be abnormal if no desire, hunger or thirst is developed for the word of God.

How would you know how to live your new saved life in Christ without guidance from the Word of God

2 Timothy 3:16-17

 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  • The word of God teaches us how to live righteously.
  • It rebukes and corrects our wrongs and ungodly lifestyle
  • It trains us in righteousness. We are called the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The word of God trains us to live a life worthy of righteousness and salvation. Teaches us how to work out our salvation.
  • It trains and equips us for good work, for ministry, for everyday living.
  • It opens our eyes and ears to the truth and sets us free
  • It gives us wisdom and knowledge
  • We hear God speak through his word

See what David says about it in Psalm 19: 7-11.

Savor this truth!

The instruction of the Lord is perfect,
renewing one’s life;
the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy,
making the inexperienced wise.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
making the heart glad;
the command of the Lord is radiant,
making the eyes light up.
The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever;
the ordinances of the Lord are reliable
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more desirable than gold—
than an abundance of pure gold;
and sweeter than honey
dripping from a honeycomb.
11 In addition, your servant is warned by them,
and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.

I hope you and I grow to see and delight in God’s word and instructions the same way David did.

The Word of God is LIFE, literally.

His word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path (Psalm 119:105), without His word, we are blind and lost with no direction.

In it, we find the laws, commands, and precepts of God. We find in it the promises of God to us. We find identity in it because it reveals unto us God’s identity. And in knowing God, we know ourselves. It also helps us to develop the fear (reverential awe) of God and therein lies the beginning of wisdom. In it, we find warnings, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. In it we find life.

You should read it daily with joy and hearts open to receive, understand.

You should meditate on it day and night.

The Bible is more than a book. It’s life.

“God’s word is more desirable than golthan an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb.”

You should read, delight and meditate on it.

If you have no appetite for it, pray, ask and it shall be given unto you.

Stop finding excuses for not reading the Word.

You shall read and delight in your father‘s words and instructions.

God bless.

You are Eternally Loved.
